Highs near 70 degrees Thursday, chance of snow this weekend as DC's unpredictable winter continues

WASHINGTON - It will feel like spring in some parts of the D.C. metro area on Thursday with temperatures in some areas expected to reach 70 degrees - but the warmth won't stick around for long.

In what has become the norm for this year - the unseasonable warm-up could be followed by winter weather! You heard right! FOX 5's Mike Thomas is keeping his eye on a weather system that could bring parts of our area a wintry mix over the weekend.

Let's start with Thursday - we could see the highest temperatures of the year with temps near 70 degrees. Spotty showers will bring rain to some parts of the region but it definitely won't be a wash-out. Friday morning starts warm but then the cold temperatures start to make their return.

By Saturday temperatures drops to the 30s and 40s as cold air moves in. Along with the cold air - a storm system will pass to our south - and that's where the questions begin! Very early analysis of the radar shows that by Saturday night a mostly a rain event will move into areas south and east of D.C., a snowy / rain mix could move into the District and parts north and west of the city could see heavier snow. Like usual, the rain / snow line that typically runs along the I-95 corridor will determine how much winter precipitation the District will get - if it gets any at all. The winter weather - if it hits - could last into the early morning Sunday.

And if those weather mood swings aren't enough for you - warm air moves back in with more 70 degree days expected next week!
