WASHINGTON - Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected Wednesday as temperatures climb into the upper 80s, approaching record highs.
What we know:
Morning temperatures in the upper 60s and low 70s will give way to rising humidity, with a few brief pop‑up showers possible north and west of the District.
A front moving in from the north and west will increase the chance of storms later in the day.
FOX 5’s Taylor Grenda says the risk for severe weather begins after 2 p.m., with scattered thunderstorms are possible through the evening and into early Thursday.
Damaging wind gusts and small hail are the main concerns, while the tornado threat remains low, Grenda says.
Temperatures will fall behind the storms, with highs only in the 60s around D.C. on Thursday and some lingering fog early in the day.
The D.C. region is expected to rebound into the 80s on Friday, setting up a warm and pleasant holiday weekend.
