Woman stabbed in robbery attempt outside Gaithersburg mall

GAITHERSBURG, Md. - Montgomery County police are investigating after a woman was stabbed by a suspect who tried to rob her as she left a shopping mall in the middle of the day. According to investigators, the attack happened Thursday just before 1:30 p.m. outside Lake Forest Mall in Gaithersburg.

Police say the 63-year-old woman was leaving the Macy's store and was near her car in the parking lot outside when she was confronted by a man who demanded money from her. When she refused to comply, the suspect pushed the woman into her car, stabbed her repeatedly, and then left the scene.

The woman was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. She has since been treated and released.

Montgomery County police are asking for help in tracking down the suspect. They describe him as a Hispanic man who is about 5'5" tall and weighs between 150 and 180 pounds. They say he was wearing a dark blue hoodie when he attacked the woman.
