Woman sleeping on couch shot in leg; DC police search for vehicle of interest

Police are searching for suspects after they say a woman sleeping in her D.C. apartment was struck by gunfire.

The incident was reported around 5:30 a.m. Sunday in the 2400 block of Elvans Road in the Southeast.

When officers arrived they found a woman inside of an apartment unit suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. The woman told officers that she had been sleeping on her couch when she was struck by gunfire. She was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators say several other apartment windows were struck causing damage. Officers say a vehicle of interest was captured by nearby surveillance cameras.
