Wife charged in shooting death of 75-year-old husband in Alexandria
ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Alexandria police said the wife of a 75-year-old man shot and killed inside their home Wednesday morning has been arrested for his murder.
Officers were called to a home in the 1100 block of Duke Street at around 10:45 a.m. and found Rolf Marshall shot inside. He was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
Police announced Wednesday night that detectives charged 47-year-old Paula Marshall with murder.
Neighbors who know the couple said Rolf Marshall has had some health issues in recent months. Online property and tax records show their house was purchased by the couple in 2006. Records also show the Marshalls have been sued in recent years by financial institutions and the homeowner's association in the Old Town Village neighborhood has taken them to court four times.
None of the neighbors told FOX 5 that they had noticed any recent trouble at the house and said the woman who lived there is originally from Australia.
"Chatted with both of them -- he was a very nice guy," a neighbor said. "They were always out walking their dog. He had bits and pieces from surgery. The few times we saw them out, they seemed to get along but something wasn't right."
