VIDEO: Falling tree just misses employee outside DC bar

Surveillance video captured at a northwest DC bar last week showed a close call for one of their employees. When strong storms rolled through last Wednesday night, an employee at The Pub and The People ran outside to save a patio umbrella--and it almost ended in disaster.

Video shared with FOX 5 by the bar's owner shows the brave employee, Walter Thomas, running out the door to try and take down the umbrella, which was still open and about to be swept away in the wind. Literally seconds after he steps out of the way, a huge tree came crashing down.

As the tree falls, patrons inside the bar are heard screaming--not knowing what had just happened to Thomas, who was still outside. Fortunately, he was not injured.

Matt Murphy, who is one of the bar's owners, told FOX 5 that all of their employees have been told that in the future, saving an umbrella isn't worth risking their lives.
