Veteran who visited DC on honor flight claims he is in famous V-J Day photo

One of the World War II soldiers who came to Washington on an honor flight over the weekend might have an extra-special claim to fame!

Carl Muscarello says that he is pictured in an iconic photograph taken in Times Sqaure on V-J Day.

He is one of almost a dozen sailors who claim to be in the photograph, which shows a sailor kissing a nurse and has become an iconic image celebrating the end of the war, but he has extra proof to back up his claim.

The photographer who took the photo was eventually able to identify the nurse in the image, and she picked Muscarello as the likely soldier after meeting him and asking him questions. The two even re-created the photo for its 50th anniversary.
