Va. man facing charges for threatening to bomb and shoot a police car

FAIRFAX, Va - A Virginia man is facing charges after police say he threatened to bomb and shoot a police car.

Fairfax County police say on January 2, 46-year-old Virgil Snyder called the Mount Vernon District Station and got on the phone with an officer, but when the officer spoke he was not responsive.

Investigators say the call was transferred to the 911 call center, because the officer on the line thought he may have needed assistance.

But once on the phone with the call center, Snyder began to make statements about shooting and blowing up a police car with an officer inside. Police say the Department of Public Safety Communications, which runs the call center, reported the incident and officers were assigned to investigate.

Search warrant records show Snyder also threatened to burn down the Governor's mansion, churches, synagogues, mosques and the Fairfax County Courthouse.

Detectives arrested Snyder the following evening at the 11200 block of Fairfax Boulevard and charged him with threatening to bomb or damage a means of transportation.

Investigators say though that they don't believe Snyder is a threat to public safety. He is scheduled to appear back in court in March.
