LARGO, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - The United Way of the National Capital Area is providing aid to help workers impacted by the partial government shutdown.
The organization pledged $50,000 to non-profit groups who are providing, "vital food, rent and other assistance," during the shutdown.
The group called on other organizations to match its pledge. Pepco responded with a $50,000 pledge of its own.
United Way NCA is also offering financial counseling at locations in the D.C. area.
Many workers effected by the shutdown will miss their first pay checks on Friday.
