Threats made against coach causes Va. high school football game to be played earlier during daylight
DUMFRIES, Va. - Two Northern Virginia high school football teams are playing their game earlier than usual Friday evening for security reasons after someone made anonymous threats against a coach of one of the teams.
The game between Potomac High School and Freedom High School kicked off at 5 p.m., two hours before it was originally scheduled.
Police said they have no reason to believe the threat is credible, but the school district decided not to take any chances. The game at Potomac High School was also moved earlier while there was still daylight out in order to help police keep a better eye on the situation.
No backpacks, purses or bulky items were allowed to be brought into the game as part of the extra precautions.
