Teen charged in fatal shooting case of 3-year-old DC girl

WASHINGTON -- D.C. police have arrested a 17-year-old boy in the death case of a 3-year-old girl who was killed after being accidentally shot in her family's apartment.

The teenager was arrested on Monday and charged with first-degree cruelty to child.

Three-year-old Dalis Cox was shot on July 29 in an apartment in the 600 block of 46th Place in Southeast D.C. She was transported to the hospital where she later died.

Police sources told FOX 5 that one of Cox's siblings shot her in the chest by accident while the 3-year-old's mother was inside their apartment.

At a news conference last month, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said the gun used in the shooting was determined to be illegal.
