Store clerk stabbed, slashed in violent gas station robbery in Germantown

A man with a knife stabbed and slashed a store clerk in a violent gas station robbery that was caught on camera.

The gruesome attack happened just after 9 p.m. on August 15 at a Sunoco gas station in the 18000 block of Mateny Road in Germantown.

Police said the suspect walked in the convenience store and asked for cigarettes. As the 58-year-old store clerk turned his back, the suspect hopped right through the opening to other side of the counter and pulled out a knife demanding money.

The clerk put up a fight and a struggle ensued with the suspect stabbing the employee in his torso and slashing his face with the knife.

The suspect, described as a black male in his 20s, then forced the employee to open the cash register and fled from the store after receiving the money.

The entire ordeal lasted nearly two minutes and it was all caught on a surveillance camera inside the store.

Police said the clerk was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A co-worker told FOX 5 that the injured employee is now recovering at home.

Police are hoping the surveillance video will lead someone to identify the suspect. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
