SoberRide, Uber, Lyft: Getting around D.C. for New Year's Eve

For those wanting to celebrate the New Year around the D.C. area, it is still key to party responsibly. While you enjoy your midnight champagne and other libations, Metro is extending hours, and promo codes are available for Uber and Lyft for rides home at the end of the night.

Metro says trains will be running until 2 a.m. on New Year's Eve.

Metro normally closes at 11:30 p.m. on weekdays, but will be extending rail service an extra two-and-a-half hours for riders.

The transit agency will be charging off-peak fares and there will be no track work planned that night, officials say.

Riders can check last train times for your stations online, but be sure to add two and a half hours to the normal last train time.

Metro will reopen at 8 a.m. and close at 11 p.m. on New Year's Day. Trains will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule.

DC Streetcar will also be operating until 2 a.m.

For those not near a Metro station or the Streetcar, SoberRide, through the Washington Regional Alcohol Program is offering free Lyft rides home up to $15.

Use PromoCode NYEDC18 for the $15 off your Lyft ride New Year's eve from 8 p.m. Monday until 4 a.m. Tuesday Jan. 1.

Rides are offered in Washington D.C., Montgomery and Prince George's County in Maryland, and Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties in Virginia.

The offer is valid for the first 2,250 passengers who use the code during the designated time frame.

Uber is patnering again with Miller Lite to offer free rides for first-time Uber users. If it's your first time downloading the Uber app, you can enter the promo code MILLERTIME18 for up to $15 on free rides, and the code is valid through Feb. 27.

D.C. law firm Scrofano Law PC (which specializes in DUI law) is sponsoring a promo code valid for $10 off your Uber ride from midnight until 4 a.m. New Year's. Promo code e69n2da is only valid on 100 Uber rides that start or end within five miles of Logan Circle.
