Authorities have arrested and charged a bus driver with DUI after they say they found her slumped over the wheel of a bus on the shoulder of a highway in Anne Arundel County.

Police say an off-duty officer found 36-year-old Angela Marie Cassidy asleep in the driver’s seat on September 18 on the shoulder of Route 100 near Oakwood Road in the Glen Burnie area.

Officers say they were unable to wake Cassidy and entered the bus through the rear emergency exit. Once she was awake, investigators say they noticed signs of impairment, including a strong odor of alcohol coming from her.

An on-duty officer arrived and performed sobriety tests on Cassidy. She was arrested and faces DUI and other related charges.

No children were on the bus during the incident. The Associated Press reports that Anne Arundel County Public Schools confirmed Cassidy was a driver for one of its schools and that she's no longer eligible to drive for the system.
