Prince William County officer wounded in shooting returns to duty

A Prince William County police officer shot while responding to a domestic-related incident that resulted in the death of a fellow officer has returned to duty.

The police department posted a photo on its Facebook page welcoming Officer Jesse Hempen back with his squad as he returned to patrol duty for his evening shift.

Hempen, an 8-year veteran of the department, was shot along with Officer Ashley Guindon and Officer David McKeown while responding to a domestic violence call at a Woodbridge home back on February 27. Guindon died from her injuries resulting from the shooting while McKeown survived.

Ronald Hamilton was charged for the fatal shootings of Officer Guindon as well as his 29-year-old wife, Crystal, at their Woodbridge home.

In April, both Hempen and McKeown were honored at Nationals Park for the team's home season opener and they threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the game.
