Prince George's County residents upset with road conditions following snow storm

Prince George's County Public Schools are back in session Friday after four days of closure, but classes began with a two-hour delay. The decision was made out of caution, as many neighborhood roads remain covered in ice.

Road Conditions Cause Concerns

Throughout the county, residents are upset about the road conditions, like the ones FOX 5’s Stephanie Ramirez spotted near Oxon Park Street in Temple Hills, which was recently treated but remains icy in many spots. A neighbor captured cell phone video showing a car sliding down the street into a Giant truck on Thursday morning, which hit a pole. Another truck was stuck and had to be towed. The county's plow map shows some streets haven't been serviced in 48 hours or more.

Differing Opinions on Road Treatment

The Department of Public Works and Transportation director claimed they have plenty of salt, but residents disagree. Some say roads weren't pre-treated enough, the county didn't plow in time, or they plowed but didn't salt. Others believe the county wasn't ready for the deep freeze after Monday's snowstorm.

Call for Council Hearing

At least one county councilmember is calling for a council hearing to address what went wrong and how to prevent it from happening again, deeming the situation unsafe and unacceptable.

FOX 5’s Bob Barnard will be taking the concerns of Prince George's County residents to officials. Stay with FOX 5 for the latest developments.
