Power outages, major damage after severe storms move through region

Many homes woke up in the dark Wednesday morning after powerful storms struck our region overnight.

Several neighborhoods in the city and surrounding counties reported downed trees and flooded roadways.

Utility companies across the DMV reported outages as a result of the severe storms.

In Bowie, Md., emergency crews responded to a gas station that was heavily damaged by strong winds. The winds were powerful enought to flip the canopy that coveres the gas pumps. No one was injured.

The storms also caused delays on Amtrak lines between Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Temperatures in the 90s with partly cloudy skies expected for Wednesday. The region can expected scattered storms into the evening.
