Police say assault on officer led to chase, crash in Montgomery County

SILVER SPRING, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - A police pursuit ended in a crash early Wednesday morning in Montgomery County.

Investigators say they were following a vehicle occupied by a person they say was suspected of assaulting a police officer. The vehicle crashed on southbound Georgia Avenue near Interstate 495 in the Silver Spring area.

Traffic was blocked between Forest Glen Road and Interstate 495 for about an hour.

Officers say the incident began when a person inside the vehicle assaulted an officer during a large fight in the Wheaton area early in the morning. Police say three people were injured and were transported with injuries.

The incident is still under investigation.
