Police officer involved in crash in Prince William County

A Prince William County Police officer was involved in a crash in Manassas Thursday night.

The crash happened at Piper Lane and Nokesville Road at around 8:35 p.m., police say.

A preliminary investigation revealed the officer was making a left turn at Piper Ln. onto southbound Nokesville Rd. when another driver, a woman traveling northbound in a Ford Edge, collided with the cruiser. Police say the officer is "believed to have had the right-of-way with a green traffic signal" at the time of the crash.

Police say the officer was extracted from the cruiser and was conscious and alert when he was transported to an area hospital. The other driver was also transported to the hospital. Her condition is unknown at this time, according to police.

In 2012, Prince William County Police officer Chris Yung passed away following a crash in the same intersection. Yung was responding to the scene when a minivan made a left-hand turn and crashed into his department motorcycle.

A Bristow elementary school has since been named in his honor.

On Friday, 57-year-old Tracey McMillan was charged with reckless driving in connection with Thursday night's crash.

The officer, who has not been identified, has been released from the hospital.
