Police: Man stabbed by acquaintance over coffee at mall in Montgomery County

A man is in stable condition after police say he was stabbed by an acquaintance he was having coffee with at a Montgomery County Mall.

The incident was reported around 4:47 p.m. at the Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda.

First responders located a 37-year-old male suffering from apparent stab wounds to his torso area inside of the mall.

Police say Jeffrey Lewis Sweeney-Grant, from the the 17000 block of King James Way in Gaithersburg, identified himself as the suspect to the mall security force. He was taken into custody and charged with attempt first-degree murder and first-degree assault.

The victim was transported to a local trauma center and is in stable condition.
