Police: Man attempted to carjack vehicles on DC bridge after accident

United States Park Police said an officer used a stun gun to arrest a suspect who fled the scene of an accident and attempted to carjack other cars on the Kutz Memorial Bridge in Washington D.C.

The suspect, who was driving a Nissan Altima, struck a bus near the Lincoln Memorial at 23rd Street and Independence Avenue at around 11 a.m. Friday, according to police. After the crash, the suspect drove from the scene but his car broke down on the bridge.

Police said the man attempted to gain entry to a few cars before a construction crew on the bridge witnessed what was happening and detained the man. They then called 911.

After Park Police arrived, the suspect was combative and an officer deployed his Taser on the man. He was taken into custody and transported to the hospital.

Police said the suspect will be charged with assault on a police officer, leaving a scene of an accident and attempted carjacking.
