Police investigate homicide after woman found dead in SE D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Police are investigating a homicide after a woman was found dead in the 1600 block of U Street, Southeast, on Friday, October 20, 2017.

At approximately 10:53 pm, Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the the location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound.

DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life.

The victim was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

During the course of the investigation, a second victim, an adult male, was located at a local hospital receiving treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The decedent has been identified as 20-year-old Shawntese Murphy, of Suitland, MD.
