Overnight snow brings downed wires, delays and a messy morning commute
SILVER SPRING, Md. (FOX 5 DC) - The overnight snow wasn't too heavy but it was enough to make for a messy morning commute and to delay the opening times of schools across the region.
The system moved into the area Thursday night and dropped about an inch of snow in some parts as it made its way through.
The wintry mix also contributed to a dangerous situation in the Silver Spring area. Officials say a salt truck brought down power lines and a traffic light near Blair Circle along Route 390 between Colesville Road and Route 410. FOX 5's Anne Cutler was on the scene at Blair Circle when a vehicle drove under the low hanging lines. Police say motorists should avoid the circle under emergency crews have made all repairs.
FOX 5's Tucker Barnes says we'll see some sun later in the day and temperatures will be in the upper 40s. A storm system will bring a messy wintry mix to the area beginning Saturday night and lasting into Sunday.
