Officers describe rescuing elderly man from NE DC fire on Buchanan Street

Police officers describe rescuing an elderly man from a fire in northeast D.C. early Thursday morning.

A fire broke out at a couple's home on Buchanan Street at around 12:30 a.m., officials say.

Two officers rushed into the burning home and helped the husband get out safely when they arrived on scene.

"We are no heroes. We do this every day. It is our job. It is part of our job," said Officer Eldred Boria.

But the officers certainly are heroes. They were both treated for smoke inhalation.
