Off-duty DC firefighter shot while driving in southeast Washington

An off-duty DC firefighter was shot while driving his personal vehicle through southeast Washington on Saturday afternoon.

A fire department spokesperson said it happened in the 3300 block of Southern Ave. SE at around 4 pm. The 44-year-old firefighter was in the car with a family member at the time, and after being shot he was transported to a local hospital. He was conscious, alert and is expected to be ok.

Police are searching for a black and red motorcycle in connection to the shooting. No further description was given.

The firefighter who was shot has not been identified, but a spokesperson said he works at a station in northwest DC and is a 24-year veteran of the department. He remained hospitalized Saturday night in stable condition.
