Nine shot, two dead over violent DC weekend
WASHINGTON - A string of violent shootings over the weekend left two people dead and several others injured.
In total, nine people were shot in the District in six different incidents from early Sunday morning into Sunday night.
Police say the violence began when two men were shot early Sunday morning in the 4800 block of Kansas Avenue in the Northwest. One of the victims in this incident died.
On Sunday afternoon, police say a teenager was killed in the 4500 block of Quarles Street in the Northeast. Police believe the victim was an 18-year-old and investigators told FOX 5 the shooting may be linked to a party that went on in the area the night before.
Later Sunday evening, police were called to a shooting on Clay Place and Minnesota Avenue -- just about a mile away from the Quarles Street shooting earlier in the day. A police source told FOX 5 that a man was found shot in the hip. A second victim was found along 18th Street and C Street after being shot several times in the chest.
Police say no arrests have been made in any of the incidents. There is no indication that the shootings are connected; however, officers say the investigations are continuing.
According to D.C. crime data, violent crime is down 26% this year over last. The weekend shootings have not yet been added to the data.
