New Year's baby born 34 seconds into 2019 at Shady Grove Medical Center

Just 34 seconds into 2019, a baby girl was born at Adventist HealthCare Shady Grove Medical Center.

Meilani Morales was born at 12:00:34 a.m. on Jan. 1.

The 5 lb., 15 oz., 19-inches-long baby girl was welcomed by her parents, Julie Palencia and Silvio Morales from Silver Spring.

Meilani is named for her dad's grandmother.

At Adventist HealthCare Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, the first baby of 2019 was welcomed there at 3:04 a.m.

Both families are healthy and doing well, said Adventist HealthCare.

The "first" babies and their parents receive a special gift from the hospitals - a large basket of gifts filled with toys, books, clothing and other baby essentials.

Congrats and welcome to the world! Happy 2019!
