Mother grieves the loss of her son after he drowns in District Heights pool
DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. - A mother is grieving the loss of her son after he drowned in a District Heights, Md. apartment complex pool on August 31.
The mother, Holly Cullison, says she wants answers after a life guard at the pool allegedly failed to save her sons life. Davon Cullison, 22, was swimming with his friends when Holly says the lifeguard simply didn't notice Davon at the bottom on the pool. She says, had he seen him, she wouldn't be experiencing this pain over the loss of her first born. Davon had been in critical condition since the incident up until Sept. 11, when he died.
Holly tells FOX 5 that it was his friends who pulled him up from the bottom of the pool, where she believes he was under the water for 15- 20 minutes. She also says the lifeguard did not know CPR, which did not allow Davon to get the immediate help he needed once he was pulled out of the water. The pool has since been closed.
Holly says she never wants to see the pool open again, she's afraid this could happen to someone else's child. She has a lawyer and says the lifeguard has a lawyer. Holly hopes that surveillance cameras will perhaps reveal clues about what happened that day.
A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday evening for Davon, Holly was joined by dozens of family and friends to help celebrate his life.
Police are investigating the situation.
