Montgomery County Police debut new mobile app

Want to find out about crime in your neighborhood or send a tip to the police? There's an app for that.

Police in Montgomery County have unveiled a new mobile app that allows people to report crime tips, connect with police on the phone and view crime information at the street level.

The app debuted last week and already has more than 2600 downloads, according to a police spokesman.

Police in Montgomery County got the idea from nearby police agencies using something similar. Baltimore City Police and Frederick Police also use apps.

Police also hope the app will serve them as a recruiting tool. There's a button that takes users straight to open jobs with the department.

The app can be found by searching Montgomery County Police in the app store.
