Metro service restored after small train fire inside Georgia Ave-Petworth station

The Georgia Ave-Petworth Metro station was temporarily evacuated after a small train fire, officials say.

Rail service on the Green and Yellow lines was briefly suspended between the U Street/African-Amer Civil War Memorial/Cardozo and Fort Totten stations as a result of the smoke and fire that started at around 4:39 p.m. Friday inside the Georgia Ave-Petworth station.

After the fire department extinguished the fire, train service was restored on the Green and Yellow lines. Passengers should expect residual delays.

No injuries have been reported, officials say.
