Metro SafeTrack Surge #3 begins
WASHINGTON - Wednesday was the first morning rush-hour to experience the third phase of Metro's SafeTrack maintenance plan.
Surge #3 impacts trains going to and from Reagan National. Passengers saw additional congestion on the airport's roadways and in its parking facilities. No major issues were reported.
Work is being performed on the Yellow and Blue Metro lines between the Reagan National Airport and Braddock Road stations. Although Metrorail service will still be provided to the airport, passengers traveling to Reagan National are encouraged to find alternative transportation options and consider parking reservations via the airports website to ensure parking before they leave home.
Metro will provide shuttle bus service between the closed rail line segments while track work is performed. Additionally, there will be increased ground transportation options, including taxis and shuttle buses, during this Metro closure.
Significant passenger growth in recent years due to changes in flights and air service at Reagan National has stressed airport roadways and facilities. Non-airport traffic should avoid the airport during this track work.
Line segment shutdown between National Airport and Braddock Road will last from July 5 through July 11 and will involve the following changes:
On weekdays:
-- Blue Line will operate in two segments:
-- Trains will run every 15 minutes between Franconia-Springfield and Braddock Rd.
-- Trains will run every 12 minutes between National Airport and Largo.

-- Trains will run every 12 minutes between Huntington and Braddock Rd.
-- Trains will run every 12 minutes between National Airport and Greenbelt.

-- FREE shuttle buses between Braddock Rd and National Airport.
-- Service between DC and Reagan National Airport available via train.
-- FREE shuttle buses will operate via Metroway between Braddock Rd, Crystal City and Pentagon City.
-- FREE shuttle buses will operate between Braddock Rd and Pentagon City.
-- Blue/Yellow customers are encouraged to consider alternate travel options and avoid traveling during rush hour if possible; expect significant crowding on Blue & Yellow line trains.
