Md. man hacked into women's computers, stole nude pics

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. -- A former Marine was sent to prison Friday morning for hacking into women's computers and stealing their nude pictures.

Mauricio Cerruto-Rios, 28, pleaded guilty to illegally accessing computers.

"This is a particularly prurient case where this individual hacked the computers and emails and Facebook postings of various women -- nearly 100 -- that we were able to find out through police investigation," said Ramon Korionoff with the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office.

After being tipped off by a Silver Spring woman, a search of Cerruto-Rios' computer turned up scores of files, organized and alphabetized, with nude photos of young women.

"This individual was extorting other women to give him more photographs or access and information to other victims," said Korionoff.

Authorities said they are not sure how he found his victims.

Cerruto-Rios had a secret clearance for his job as a security contractor at Homeland Security headquarters in the District, but his attorney said Cerruto-Rios' job had nothing to do with the case.

"It's a tragedy because he led a life -- and has led a life -- free from blemish, with this notable exception. He has an issue. And it's going to have to be resolved with appropriate mental health therapy," said attorney Luiz Simmons.

Cerruto-Rios was sentenced to 18 months behind bars.
