Maryland youth basketball coach arrested for online sexual solicitation of a minor

An Amateur Athletic Association (AAA) youth boys basketball coach in Germantown has been arrested for online sexual solicitation of a minor, according to Montgomery County Police.

Asil M. Din, 44, of Germantown, had been communicating unknowingly with an undercover police detective since November 1.

The detective posed as a 15-year-old girl on the advertisements website Craigslist. Din posed as a man named "Oscar," and although he knowingly knew the girl was 15, he continued to email and text with her.

According to the police report, he proposed that the two have sex on a regular basis and he would pay her $100 each time. They then made plans to meet in person at the Rockville Metro Station on November 8. When Din arrived, officers were there waiting to arrest him.

"It's really sad because this is a great opportunity for children they help them get scholarships and they really love basketball," said Yolanda Mahoney, an AAU parent.

Din was charged with sexual solicitation of a minor and released on a $10,000 bond, but will be in court for a preliminary hearing in early December.

"I was very shocked and surprised because his daughter is about the same age," said Kerwin Stephens, a coach.
