Man struck, killed crossing US 301 in Prince George's County Saturday night
BRANDYWINE, Md. - Investigators say a man has died after attempting to cross a busy highway in Prince George's County, according to officials. They say alcohol is believed to be a factor.
Maryland State Police say a man was struck and killed after attempting to cross southbound US 301, south of Berry Street in Brandywine, just after 9 p.m. Saturday night.
Police say the pedestrian walked into the street into oncoming traffic, directly into the path of the approaching vehicle when he was struck. Investigators say they don't know the reason for the person being in the roadway.
Police say the driver remained on the scene.
The driver of the Chrysler passenger vehicle is identified as James Williams II, 28, of Clinton, MD. The passenger of the Chrysler was a male child.
Shortly after 9:00 p.m. yesterday, Maryland State Police received calls from motorists, reporting a crash involving a passenger vehicle and a pedestrian on southbound US 301, south of Berry Street in Brandywine, MD. Troopers from Maryland State Police Forestville Barrack were immediately dispatched to the location.
Officials say Prince George's County medic personnel pronounced the victim deceased on the scene.
MDOT State Highway Administration personnel were on the scene and assisted with lane closures and detours around the scene. Lanes were reopened at 5:48 a.m. Sunday morning.
