Man shot near educational facilities in northwest DC

Police are investigating a shooting that happened near several educational facilities in the District.

Officers say the shooting happened around 12:20 a.m. Monday in the 2300 block of 11 Street in the northwest.

FOX 5's Melanie Alnwick was on the scene while investigators taped off areas of the crime scene. The shooting scene is near several residential buildings and is close to the Duke Ellington School of the Arts and the Cardozo Education Campus.

Authorities say an adult male victim was shot at the location and was hospitalized in critical condition. At this time, investigators have no suspects or motives in the shooting.

Detectives in other parts of the District are continuing to investigate several other weekend incidents. Police say a man was shot while playing basketball on a court in front of Harmony Public Charter School on T Street Sunday night. Officers believe an attempted robbery led to the victim being shot. The man, who is believed to be in his late teens, is in stable condition.

On Sunday morning, a Washington police officer shot and killed a motorcyclist who rammed the passenger-side door of a police car after a traffic stop. The shooting occurred around 4:20 a.m. Sunday at 3rd and M streets, Northwest, about four blocks from the Washington Convention Center.

Detectives made an arrest after they say a man assaulted two people and shot a third person in the 1300 block of Connecticut Avenue early Saturday morning. 27-year-old Ryan Demtric Matthews was taken into custody and charged with Assault with Intent to Kill while Armed.

Shootings on Ft. Totten Drive, Benning Road, and Alabama Avenue that happened on Sunday are also under investigation.
