Man on scooter killed in Montgomery County after being struck by drunk driver

A man driving a moto-scooter has died after being struck by a drunk driver in Montgomery County Saturday night.

Police say at around 11:15 p.m., officers were called for a crash in Rockville, near Twinbrook Metro station.

They say a man driving a Tao Tao scooter was traveling southbound on Rockville Pike just before Congressional Lane, when a BMW sedan traveling northbound on Rockville Pike was making a left-hand turn onto Congressional Lane.

They say the driver of the car left the BMW in the middle of the road and fled on foot following the incident. Investigators later found the driver, 24-year-old Stephen Andrade, and arrested him for driving under the influence.

Police say the rider of the scooter, 56-year-old Ross Redler from Rockville was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Detectives say the investigation is ongoing.
