Man arrested after making inappropriate sexual comments to woman, stealing her credit cards: police

Authorities have arrested and charged a man they say cornered a woman inside of a business and made inappropriate sexual comments to her before he stole her credit cards and used them at multiple locations in Arlington County.

Officers say 36-year-old Yohannes Gebreyesus was arrested and charged with attempted rape, credit card theft and credit card fraud and also served with an outstanding warrant for felony probation violation.

Police say they were called to a store in the 1700 block of Crystal Drive in Arlington around 7:30 p.m. on July 13 where a woman told them that she yelled and pushed Gebreyesus away after he cornered her and made the sexual comments. She told police Gebreyesus fled on foot.

Investigators say Gebreyesus took the victim's credit cards and used them at multiple locations.

Gebreyesus was arrested near the Crystal City Metro on July 14. He is being held without bond in the Arlington County Detention Facility.
