Kickstarter hopes to raise $300K to preserve 'Dorothy's' ruby slippers worn in 'The Wizard Of Oz'
WASHINGTON - A Kickstarter campaign to try and save the famous red ruby slippers worn in 'The Wizard Of Oz' is picking up steam online.
The shoes, which were given to the National Museum of American History in 1979, were famously worn by Judy Garland while playing the character 'Dorothy.'
The campaign, that uses hashtag #KeepThemRuby, says that the shoes are in need of immediate conservation care and should also have a state-of-the-art display case in order to slow down their deterioration.
The campaign is hoping to raise $300,000 by Wednesday Nov 16.
In 2015, The National Air and Space Museum launched its first ever Kickstarter campaign in hopes of raising money to restore the suit Neil Armstrong wore on the moon in July 1969. That campaign raised over $700K to pay for conservation costs.
