Islamic center’s donation box burglarized by man who used ladder to sneak into building, police say

BURTONSVILLE, Md. - Authorities are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man they say stole money from a donation box at an Islamic center in Montgomery County.
Police say the burglary happened in August at the Idara Jaferia Islamic Center on Spencerville Road in Burtonsville. Investigators say the building’s caretaker discovered the burglary late on August 12. Officers say surveillance video from around 7:45 p.m. that night shows a man entering the building using a ladder to climb into a second-floor window. Once inside, police say the man pried open the donation box, stole the money inside, and fled.
Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to contact police at 240-773-6870. A $10,000 reward is being offered in the case.
