Group home resident shot, killed in Hyattsville

Prince George's County police are investigating a shooting in Hyattsville after a group home resident was shot to death on Wednesday.

Police say, Conrad Cole, 20, of Annapolis Road, was heading to play basketball with two caregivers when a car pulled up and shot him around 2 p.m. in the 6900 block of Greenvale Parkway.

According to Prince George's County Police Chief Hank Stawinski, there were two people in the car and four others in the area -- two caregivers and two developmentally disabled individuals.

The police chief said the victim and the two individuals in the car got into an argument and one man in the vehicle took out a gun and began shooting. The second person who was in the car was so disturbed by what had happened that after the shooting, that person went up to try to give first aid to the man who was shot. When that person heard the police arriving, they took off from the area.

Detectives are searching for the shooter and the person who was with him.

"I am reaching out to that person directly, I am asking you, and if this person has reached out to you and told you the story, reach out to us," said Stawinski. "You are not directly accountable for this, but you know what happened. And this person who would do this, that's a dangerous person. The men and women behind me, the dozens of investigators on this hill, we are not going to rest until this person is in custody. This is senseless, this is pointless. But that individual knows who this person is and has information that will allow us to apprehend him and make the public safe."

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest and indictment in this case.
