George Washington Parkway northbound will not be open for Monday morning commute, park service says
FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (FOX 5 DC) - The George Washington Parkway northbound near Dead Run will be remain shut down during the Monday morning commute, the National Park Service confirmed on Sunday.
The service had hoped to open at least one lane during Monday morning's rush hour.
They are now setting their sights on the Monday night rush hour.
The parkway has been shut down since Friday after a sinkhole was discovered.
An investigation on Saturday revealed that a 60-year-old, 40-foot deep brick inlet failed.
The sinkhole that emerged on Friday is in the same area as another sinkhole that temporarily shut down the parkway in March.
