The Culpeper County Sheriff's Office is searching for the gunman who killed a local star athlete and father of three children.

A $5,000 reward has been offered in the murder of Roger Davis. The 27-year-old man was gunned down Tuesday morning in the 15000 block of Shanktown Road in Reva.

The news of death has spread quickly and has left friends and family devastated.

Davis was known by those closest to him as "Ra Ra." He graduated in 2009 from Eastern View High School in Culpeper. Prior to attending Eastern View, he was also a football and basketball standout at Culpeper County High School.

His family has set up a GoFundMe page in hopes of raising money for his funeral costs.

"He was a living legend and now that he has moved on to another life, he's like almost a myth because people won't understand the dude that this was, this Roger Davis was, he was an unbelievable athlete. Maybe the best I have ever seen," said Mo Safren, a former basketball teammate and friend at Eastern View. "Also, just a kind person, a good soul and he was loving, caring and always was laughing, always was joking around."

The Culpeper County Sheriff's Office is hoping the reward will encourage anyone who may know something to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call 540-727-7900 or e-mail tipsforroger@gmail.com

Investigators say at this time there is no reason to believe there is any increased risk to the community.
