Easter bunny who broke up fight is wanted fugitive, officials say

It turns out an Easter bunny in Florida who was hailed as a hero for intervening in a fight between a man and woman has a rap sheet.

According to the South Brunswick Police Department, Antoine McDonald is wanted in New Jersey. Police say McDonald and an accomplice were caught on surveillance cameras burglarizing a car in September 2018. Police say that his warrant for this remains active.

Police in Dover, Delaware, say that McDonald was also arrested in 2017 after he and several others committed two armed robberies in 12 hours. He was charged with two counts of 1st-degree robbery, possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, and conspiracy second-degree tampering with physical evidence.

Then in 2019, McDonald was arrested by the Pasco County Sheriff's Office after using a fake ID to rent a U-Haul. He was charged with criminal use or possession of fictitious or counterfeit personal identification and driving while license suspended or revoked. He posted a $500 bond to get out, but his case is still pending.

McDonald was then captured on video in Orlando on Easter Sunday wearing a bunny suit. He was seen intervening in a fight after he says he saw a man spit on a woman. The woman punched the man and a full blown fight broke out.

"I see this lady and this guy going back and forth, and I'm just looking at it and walking," McDonald said. "Then I see him spit on her and she starts hitting him, so I walk over there. I try to help. I try to break up the fight at first. I felt I had to do something to help get him off of her to make sure she got away from fight safely and unharmed."

Orlando police ultimately broke up the fight. No one was arrested as no one was injured and no one involved wanted to press charges.

Video of the encounter was posted on Instagram and went viral, skyrocketing to over a million views in less than 24 hours.
