Early delays after reports of smoke, fire in tunnel near Benning Road Metro station

Metro commuters were delayed Tuesday morning while emergency crews investigated reports of smoke and fire in a tunnel on the tracks near the Benning Road station.

The incident was reported around 5:30 a.m. at the station along the 4500 block of Benning Road in Northeast D.C.

No injuries were reported.

Riders along the Orange, Blue and Silver lines experienced most of the delays. Shuttle buses were used between several stations to transport riders.Normal service was back in place around 7:30 a.m.
