Donation jar for boy's medical care stolen
HENRY COUNTY, Ga. - A donation jar filled with hundreds of dollars to help a young Henry County boy was stolen in late May 2016, authorities said. The jar was inside a convenience store in Hampton.
Jennifer Titman said she needed the money to get her son to a medical specialist in Florida. Ayden, 9, has neurofibromatosis.
"It's a disease where tumors grow on any part of the body. Right now he has tumors on his brain and one on his spine," said Titman.
Titman started putting donation jars in local businesses. Titman said when she went to pick up one of the jars it was gone. Titman looked at the surveillance video and said she could clearly see a man pick up the jar. The man left with a woman in the same vehicle. Titman said through Facebook, she found photos that she believes matched the people in the surveillance video.
Henry County Police arrested Tiffany Jones and Josh Parlier. They were both charged with theft by taking. Henry County court officials indicated in September that Parlier pleaded guilty in the case. Prosecutors decided not to pursue Theft by Taking charges against Jones, court officials said.
Detectives have not recovered the jar. Titman is now trying to find other ways to raise money for her son's medical expenses. She said treatment could cost up to $100,000.
