The initial call happened Wednesday night at the mobile home on Franklin Goldmine Road.

Deputies said they were tipped off by hospital workers, after the resident showed up for an unknown medical reason.

The dogs were found living in deplorable conditions, according to deputies. One of the 30 dogs was found dead inside the home, officials said.

The rest of the animals were taken to a nearby animal shelter.

A couple living in a larger house on the same property said the 57-year-old man is their uncle. They said he is sickly, is on oxygen and loves dogs.

Deputies said no charges have been filed yet, but this is an active investigation.
