Detectives have identified the body of a woman who went missing in Fairfax County late Monday night. Fairfax County Police say 72-year-old Barbara Bushkin died from her injuries after her vehicle went into the Potomac River on Sunday near Roosevelt Island.

Bushkin's vehicle was spotted entering the water by witnesses around 10 p.m. Sunday. The vehicle became completely submerged and not visible. Vito Maggiolo, a spokesman for the DC Fire and EMS Department, told FOX 5 that it is possible that the vehicle could have floated away. He said crews worked to determine which way the currents were flowing at the time the vehicle was spotted in the water.

Police, fire, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Park Police crews remained on the scene into the night until around 1:30 a.m. Monday searching the area. Divers also searched the water but were unable to locate the vehicle until Monday evening.
