DC's 1st vegan donut shop opening up

WASHINGTON - A Maryland couple will bring a unique West Coast flavor to the District.

This spring, Shawn Petersen and Nicole Dao will open up Donut Run - D.C.'s first vegan donut shop.

"A couple years ago, Shawn and I took a trip to SoCal, and while we were there, we noticed there were mom-and-pop donut shops everywhere. We loved the look and feel of these shops and wanted to bring that vibe back to the east coast - with a twist. We wanted our shop to feature an all-vegan menu," Dao said.

Dao and Petersen have been vegan for about 15 years and they hope to cater to both vegans and non-vegans alike.

The shop will feature old standbys like Boston cream and chocolate glazed donuts, as well as inventive flavors like cookies and cream and key lime pie.

"Our goal is to be as creative as possible with our flavors. We also plan on offering breakfast items, coffee and other weekly specials," she added.

The shop will be located at 6904 4th Street in Northwest D.C. in the Takoma neighborhood.
