DC police ID suspect who was shot by officer before fleeing scene

D.C. police have identified a Southeast man who was shot by an officer during an incident on Alabama Avenue Southeast early Sunday morning.

According to police, they were investigating a suspicious vehicle when they saw one fitting the description.

An officer pulled the vehicle over and, during what police described as an "interaction," the officer fired his weapon.

Donald Willis, 48, drove away from the scene, but later turned up at a local hospital for treatment.

Police charged Willis with assault on a police officer, possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device, and fleeing from a law enforcement officer in a motor vehicle.

The officer was placed on administrative leave, per D.C. police policy.
