DC officer accused of beating wife acquitted in second trial

UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) — A Prince George's County jury has acquitted a D.C. police officer accused of trying to kill his wife.

Samson Lawrence III was found not guilty of all charges Thursday. He was charged with attempted murder and assault.

Prosecutors say Lawrence was attempting to hang a projection television at his Accokeek home in November 2013 when he became angry with his wife because she said she didn't know where the screws were.

Prosecutors say Lawrence sprayed Lysol in his wife's face and beat her with a metal light post, then threatened her with knives when she tried to call 911.

This was the second trial in the case. The first ended in a hung jury.
